MEOW WOLF Dark Palace

Write your We worked with Maxbeck as Co-Executive Producers on Dark Palace, a partnership with AEG to maximize our strengths—AEG handled permitting, operations, and safety, while we led experience creation, execution, branding, ad production, and socials. Booking and marketing were collaborative efforts.

Designed to showcase local Denver and Colorado artists, we worked with our artist curation director, Han Santana-Sayles, to bring in nearly 20 artists. The event’s visuals seamlessly integrated lighting, lasers, fabrication, and video to create an immersive experience.

Originally planned for the Sports Castle, we moved to the National Western Complex Arena due to capacity concerns. The venue’s cavernous, castle-like atmosphere enhanced the event, which drew over 10,000 attendees across three nights. Strong communication with partners was key to execution.

Key Elements:
  • Moe Gram’s ‘Texture Garden’ – Moe’s first sculptural installation featured an interactive handheld phone, which audiences loved.

  • Experimental Chillzone – Prioritized rest spaces, reminiscent of 90s/early 2000s chill-out stages.

  • Second Stage & Projection Mapping – A DJ setup behind a mapped scrim created a striking yet divisive experience.

  • Secret Love Collective & Kiki Sessions – Performances enhanced audience immersion.

  • Marketing Execution – Megan Cohen led a multi-platform campaign with AEG, managing assets across socials, print, Google ads, and the website.

  • Immersive Performers – Embedded performers deepened audience engagement.

  • LED Wall Innovation – Unique shapes and placements elevated the stage design.

Taos Vortex 2019 – Collaboration with Maxbeck

For our second immersive weekend in Taos, New Mexico, we refined the festival experience by enhancing user flow, bold visual branding, and a second stage focused on dance music and hip-hop/R&B.

Key elements:

  • Creative & Branding – A bold isometric logo and vibrant colorways evoking New Mexico sunsets.

  • Chill Out Huts – Designed for intimate moments within the larger festival experience.

  • Main Stage Innovation – Geodesic shapes with dichroic film for a modular, striking design (lesson learned: some lighting made the film invisible).

  • Immersive Performances – Colossal Collective, Fungineers, and an impromptu set by Reggie Watts.

  • Infrastructure Enhancement – Verizon’s Cell on Wheels boosted connectivity to improve the user experience.

By aligning digital and physical experiences, Taos Vortex 2019 delivered a seamless, high-energy festival while learning key lessons in design scalability and production logistics.
